Learning for Life Programme (LLP) Music for Everyone: Building Empathy and Resilience

Through the school’s Learning for Life Programme (LLP), Music for Everyone: Building Empathy and Resilience, students experience music as a meaningful part of school life that supports their social, emotional, and personal development.

Through singing, movement, and instrumental learning, students explore and express ideas using their voices and instruments. Music lessons encourage careful listening, experimentation with sound, and collaboration as students perform, create, and respond to music. These shared experiences help students build confidence, creativity, and musical understanding, while learning to work together and appreciate different perspectives.

Beyond the classroom, our LLP provides authentic opportunities for students to experience music in varied settings. These include performing for different groups within the school community and making music together with peers and seniors through community and intergenerational experiences. Over their years in school, students develop empathy and resilience through making music together, while discovering their interests and forming a lasting connection with the performing arts.

Key Programmes

Classroom Music Experience

All students participate in classroom music lessons throughout the six years, engaging in singing, movement, and instrumental learning. They explore a variety of instruments, improvise with their voices and instruments, and develop foundational music knowledge through performing, creating, and responding to music. Through ensemble playing and collaborative activities, students build confidence, musical understanding, empathy, and resilience as they learn to listen, respond, and work effectively with others.

School-wide Musical Experiences

Students experience music beyond the classroom through school-based performances and enrichment programmes. They have opportunities to share their learning with peers, such as performing during recess showcases, and to engage with live demonstrations and performances by local musicians. These experiences deepen students’ appreciation of music, broaden their understanding of diverse musical styles and instruments, and encourage them to express themselves confidently in authentic settings.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Music provides meaningful opportunities for students to develop empathy and resilience through shared musical experiences. Selected students participate in community and intergenerational programmes, where they make music with peers and seniors through Values in Action (VIA) initiatives.

Students who choose to further pursue their interests can deepen their skills through performing arts Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) and national platforms. These experiences support the development of musical mastery while nurturing teamwork, perseverance, and a sense of responsibility.
